Why 31? I thought that there were 30 men.
Correct, there were 30 US men KIA in this tragedy, but there was also one highly trained and heroic working dog that we honor as well.
Where does my registration money go?
In 2013, funds raised will be split two ways. Half will go to Snowball Express, an organization that creates hope and new memories for the children of our fallen military heroes who have died while serving our country since 9/11. Half will go to the Travis Manion Foundation, an organization that assists families of fallen heroes.
Where will my shirt be mailed?
Directly to you! We will mail your shirt to the shipping address you provide in registration.
Why am I being charged $7.00 for shipping?
While we love the idea of providing all of our participants memorial t-shirts, we cannot justify taking $7 out of each registration to pay this cost. It is simply too much money to take away from the programs we are supporting (a total of $60,000). That’s why we are asking each participant to cover the cost of shipping, allowing us to maximize your $31.00 donation. Thank you for understanding!
How are the shirts sized?
The shirts are men’s and women’s Tultex & fit fairly true to size.
I just want a shirt. I don’t want to do the workout.
To receive a 2013 shirts, you must register for the workout as an independent athlete.
Do I HAVE to do the workout at a CrossFit affiliate/I don’t have a CrossFit affiliate, etc.?
All are welcomed and encouraged to join us in honoring our fallen heroes.
Do I have to do CrossFit to be able to complete the workout?
In the same fashion of any CrossFit WOD, the workout will be scalable and can be adjusted to any person’s fitness level. The point is that you are doing something, anything to honor our heroes. Not comfortable with the workout? Go for a run, climb a rock, row a boat, etc! Do something you love and do it Saturday, August 3rd in honor of our heroes.
I am a hosting affiliate. How do I know who is coming to my event?
We will send you an email to the address you provided that will include all your participants and their email addresses. This should help you in planning for your event.
We don’t have sandbags, what do we do?
Use a plate (45/25) for the run. Not enough plates? Use dumbbells, med balls, etc. Worst case scenario, just run 400m.
We don’t have ropes, what should we do?
Use the standard CF sub of 15 towel pull-ups for each rope climb. Not familiar with a towel pull-up? That’s what Google is for .
Why a partner WOD?
Remember, this was one team going to provide assistance to another team; a partner WOD will force the athletes to work as a team and feed off of each other’s intensity.
I don’t have a partner. What do I do?
Please don’t rely on the gym where you are going to provide you with one; try to find a partner prior to going. In the event that you cannot find a partner the gym will do its best to accommodate you. However, please recognize that the gym has a significant amount of work to do, and if you come without a partner you are contributing to the workload. Should you have no partner and are doing this alone in your garage gym, you can do the WOD as an individual and just run a 400 at the completion of the box jumps.
How do I scale the WOD?
This is totally up to you. Like any CrossFit WOD, it is 100% scaleable. We’ve given you some equipment scaling options above, but beyond that it is up to you how you scale. We are not your coaches and know nothing of your fitness capabilities. We are simply CrossFitters that put together a WOD to honor our heroes. How you adjust this WOD to your capabilities is up to you. Should you need some ideas, use CrossFit.com as a resource. Please do not email us asking how to scale specifically for you.
Before moving forward, remember, our intent here is to honor these heroes that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and provide their families with any relief we can through this fundraiser. As a community, we are all honored to see how many of you have stepped up to answer the call, whether in your gyms or in your garage, it makes us proud to be CrossFitters, as you all should be as well. Then if you are still upset: stand up out of your chair and give thanks that you are here and have the freedom to complain if you wish.
A quick reminder: By registering for this event, you are not required to do this WOD. If you are not comfortable with these movements or CrossFit, don’t do it! Find another activity that you love & do it in honor of these heroes. While this fundraiser may be centered around CF, the true intent is to bring a community together by all participating in activities we love on the same day to honor our fallen heroes and raise money for their families.
